Jason Becker

East Bay Center for the Performing Arts presents the
documentary film “Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet”

RICHMOND, CA (July 5, 2012) — On Sunday, July 22, East Bay Center for the Performing Arts will present the moving award-winning documentary film, by Jesse Vile “Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet,” which chronicles the dramatic life experiences of guitarist Jason Becker. This event, which coincides with Jason’s 43rd birthday, will honor an acclaimed musician who grew up and still lives in Richmond, California while also benefiting the work of East Bay Center, which offers instruction in music, dance, and theater to the youth of Richmond’s Iron Triangle Neighborhood.

Tickets can be purchased for $12.00 + $1.41 service fee at:
http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/258339
Screenings at 4pm and 7pm on Sunday, July 22, 2012 – LIMITED SEATING

When doctors diagnosed 19-year-old rock star Jason Becker with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS), they said he would never make music again and that he wouldn’t live to see his 25th birthday. Twenty-four years later, without the ability to move or to speak, Jason is alive and making music with his eyes.

“Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet” is the story of a guitar legend who refuses to give up on his dream of being a musician despite the most incredible odds. It is a story of dreams, love, and the strength of the human spirit. The film has been made with the full co-operation of Jason and the Becker family, who have given their consent for this to be the first feature-length documentary film about his life. They have provided their entire family archive of never-before-seen photos and footage.

Audiences for this screening will also get an opportunity to participate in a rare post-show Q&A with Jason Becker, who communicates via an interpreter. Paintings by Jason’s father Gary Becker, who works in large canvas acrylics, will be on display, and merchandise featuring Jason Becker’s compositions will be available for purchase. Convenient secure parking is ½ block from the theater, which is located at 339 11th Street (at MacDonald), Richmond. General seating. This facility is wheelchair accessible.

A few words from Jeff Loomis on Jason Becker, 3/02/12

As time gets closer to my tour starting at the end of this month, I’ve been thinking a lot about Jason Becker and his new movie/documentary “Not Dead Yet.”

I won’t be able to attend, but would like to wish Jason and his family all the best for the premiere tomorrow evening.

Jason, thank you for your inspiration over all these years, and most of all, thank you for being you!

You’re the best and always will be.

– Jeff Loomis

My dear friend, the insanely talented guitarist Jeff Loomis, donated this beautiful, autographed 7-string Schecter Signature  guitar to my longtime friend, Jason Becker.  It was used to record Nevermore’s “Obsidian Conspiracy” 2010 album on the Century Media label.

This guitar donated by Jeff will be auctioned on eBay. More details will be posted as soon as they are available.  Please pass the message along! – Laurie (Ms. A)

Jeff Loomis’ 2nd upcoming solo album “Plains of Oblivion” will be released on April 10th in North America and April 9th in Europe via Century Media Records.

“Jason Becker Movie: Perpetual Burn” World Premiere Screening to be announced soon!

Intense, haunting, disturbing, and beautiful, all at the same time.  Very well done.  Living in the beautiful S.F. Bay Area, I wanted to see this.

It really makes one think.  I’ve had my own bouts with depression, but can’t even imagine feeling so incredibly despondent enough to  jump to one’s death.  Some people found the movie offensive, but I didn’t.  Though it was disturbing, perhaps a tad morbid, and very sad at times, I did see hope in it.

The Bridge

Awesome documentary about my fave music, Thrash Metal! Finally met the filmmaker, Rick Ersnt. A very sweet guy. Death Angel, Craig Locicero (ex-Forbidden/Spiralarms), and Steve “Zetro” Souza (ex-Legacy/ex-Exodus/Dublin Death Patrol) attended.

Rick was kind enough to show the S.F. audience extra footage with Testament and Death Angel!  It was awesome.

Afterwards, headed to Annie’s Social Club to say hello to my friends, the L.A. death metal band, Manslaughter.
